!!

Lost!

It's started again! I am so glad it's the last season. I remember starting to watch it all them years back right from the first season. It's been a good ride, but i'm tired of HAVING to watch TV. I've got other ways I need to waste my time. Priorities. Basically, I'm just waiting to find out about that polar bear nonsense. Oh..and the statue.

The Dudes!

GAAHH I love this band. Band-crush. I don't know who screamed louder when he hit his guitar solo dead on: the 14 year old girls in front of me...or me. It was a competition. I'll be seeing these guys as often as I can. So much to learn from them. So much to love. Please go buy their CDs (or illegally download. That's cool too). "I'm not supposed to call her--she's gonna call me laadee daa" awesome!

Friends!

I've come to the tentative conclusion that I'm pretty average in almost every way and in everything I do...except I have good friends. Like...awesome friends. There's a LOT of idiots, jerks and backstabbing social cannibals out there, but these guys I call pals are great. And I'm meeting so many awesome people all the time too!

Money!

no wait..there's no good news in this department...

No money!

That's more like it :D  This department is alive and well.

Random things to consider:

Burt's Bees with honey: don't buy it. It's really awful. But now that I've bought it, I'm going to have to suffer for the next 5 months until it runs out. Wanna trade?

Bought new ear buds too, and they already fuzz out. Buying stuff is lame.

I have a whole week off school, and I'm going to be trying my hardest to be uber-productive and work out 4 times, eat 28 meals, spend 0 dollars, write 3 papers, save 1 life, smile 200 smiles, and watch Canada win 200 gold medals.  Fix one bike and two guitars, drink 60 glasses of water and write 2 blog posts, read 1 book, and work 32 hours. This week will not be a week off...but a week ON.

You might notice i'm in an inexplicably good mood. No reason...no reason at all.

Olympics!

Hockey. Curling. Moguls. Speed skate. NOT figure skating. = Life!

Anyone with me on this?: The lighting of the torch was kinda silly, and really anticlimactic. I'm glad Gretzky did it...but it just seems silly that it took four people to actually present it. I dunno.

Spicy Song of the week tomorrow...numba 25!

Crappy Newspapers Report Crappy News Stories Crappily

I don't really care if you like CFL (that's Canadian Football, unfortunately. Not College Football.). That's fine. But the idea of hyping up the idea of EIGHT TEAMS competing to be named the BEST is a bit laughable.

Seriously? This is exciting? When you look at the numbers and stats, it's not even close to interesting. But on Grey Cup day, the teams and fans get ansty and pysched and nervous and edgy, and i'm sure that makes for a very interesting game. However, I was too busy cutting my fingernails to tune in. Priorities, you know.

But anyways I just wanted to give you a glimpse of just how action packed and hardcore CFL is (small inaudible scoff), given the Grey Cup game last weekend. With Montreal's come-from-behind-last-minute-holy-cow-i-can't-believe-that-just-happened victory against those melonheaded Saskatchewan Roughriders, it made for some emotionally packed moments after the game as both teams tried to comprehend what had just happened. I thought you ought to see just how exciting the after math was:

This is how the winner reacted:

"I'm so disappointed that I wasn't in the NFL when this happened so more than 29 people could see me win. Plus, I bet against us in my betting pool."

Aaand this is how the loser reacted:

"I'm so disappointed that the NFL will never draft me after my loss to Montreal!"

Holy. I know, right? I wish I had been there too, given the intensity of the pictures. I think what happened here is the players felt strong emotion about their win/loss, and didn't know how to handle it, so they just fell down. Poor guys.

I make fun of this purely because as Francisco and I were sitting in A&W on 'break', we read the newspaper, and the Calgary Sun felt that these two pictures were the best choices for showing the very different reactions from both teams. Well put, Calgary Sun. So articulate. So intelligent.

It's okay guys, we'll make up for our Football league by winning the STANLEY CUP.

haha...hm.

Perspective Plagues The Objective Mind

So maybe my vague reference to the bible in my last post seems unsubstantiated or aggressive, and I appreciate someone piping up to say that I didn't connect the dots. I may not have  explained it too well, but I didn't say anything I didn't mean. I was making a simple observation that we (humanity regardless of religion) make the bible into what we want it to say for a specific purpose or agenda. Gay rights activists will point out different perspectives and interpretations than a southern baptist preacher, just as a poor man will cling to different verses or ideas for hope than the CEO of some oil company like Shell will for peace of mind. Or, more profoundly, an Atheist will find flaw in the same verse that a Christian finds solace. Perspective plagues the objective mind.

Now...why did I make this bible reference before the video? Because the western idea of marriage is primarily a result of the combination of two ideologies: Greco-Roman culture and Judeo-Christian belief. In fact, it's these two groups of people that have formed the foundations of what we now consider "western thought" or "western culture" or "western" anything. So when we look at how the definition of marriage has changed as western culture moves 'forward', we are essentially comparing marriage now to marriage in biblical times. What Dan describes as marriage complete with dowry and the transfer of ownership of the wife is straight out of the bible. Whether you all like it or not.

So yes, it's all about the bible. It's about how the bible has influenced the way we (westerners) all think (most of us), and how we slowly violate what it teaches, and in turn, people cry outrage until the rebellious activity becomes acceptable to even the conservative Christians. A term worth researching: Liberal Christianity. Very fascinating interpretations of the bible.

I'm making no judgements up to now, just pointing out that what you believe might not really jive with the book you claim to be referencing, depending on who interprets it.  I'm just tired of people saying they have "it" all figured out.

I hope that clarifies that I was simply making an observation about the point that Dan Savage was alluding to: the same people who say gay marriage is sin are the same people who break handfuls of other marriage laws and defend their changed minds. So that's that. thoughts?

Irony Curtain

So I'd like to congratulate humanity on 20 years since the Berlin Wall was brought down. They celebrated by throwing a massive free concert including U2. However, they only made 10 000 tickets available (which were all claimed in 3 hours) and decided that ticket-holders should be the only ones to see the show, and everyone else should watch it from home on TV, so they had to find a way to deter ticket-less people from congregating.

So they built a wall. A twelve foot high barrier to keep out common folk! It was erected almost along the same line where the Berlin Wall stood for 30 years.

That's brilliant, guys. That would be like building an Airplane museum on the site where the World Trade Center once stood. Better yet, a mosque! Ahh the callous irony!

Gyaahhh I can't sleep again.
